Very old and elegant Punu mask from the Ogowe bassin region. the protruding diamond-shaped face with raised pursed lips
and slit coffee bean eyes set deeply beneath the arching brows, the domed forehead beneath a tripartite coiffure, and framed
by semicircular ears protruding to the sides; exceptionally fine encrusted kaolin patina on the face and encrusted blackened
patina on the coiffure

This well carved figure exhibits typical Baule concern with the aesthetics of the presentation of the beauty of the women. Her hair is carefully combed and modeled and scarification on her chest, abdomen, neck, back and face show her as a mature and prominent woman of her village. Old tribal retoration to right leg. Insect damage to base. Shiny patina from tribal use. Asye Usu figures are deviner figures made for ritual purpose.

This is a very old type of Baule portrait mask with pairced eyes and curved nose. The mask hase a complicated and very fine haisrstyle, important scarification and elegant beard. The patina is a very dry greyish to dark one with highlights at some places. The expresion of the face is of an aristocratic type and should have been of an inportant member of the Baule sociaty.

"Master," as a title in the men's Poro society, connotes intelligence, creativity, and mastery of a particular skill, such as weaving. painted wooden surface with shiny age patina and fine encrustation.
