Pre-colombian gallery tour

Designed by Philip Johnson, and completed in 1963, the Pre-Columbian gallery consists of eight circular glass pavilions arranged in a square. In combination with transparent and translucent exhibit cases, the glass enclosures allow the natural, wooded environment of the Dumbarton Oaks landscape to envelope the objects on display. Within the pavilions, the collection is arranged by cultural and geographical groupings.

Eskimo Ivory

On this site, you will find examples of Eskimo artifacts in several different media and from a wide historical period ranging from around 900AD to the late 1880's. Many separate Eskimo tribes produced objects that were stylistically advanced beyond the reach of many indigenous peoples
and, in many ways, exceeded the abilities of larger, more significant PaleoAmerican cultures
such as the Maya and the Aztecs.

North by Northwest Arts

North by Northwest Arts is the on-line presence of Jeffrey Myers Primitive Art.

Mr. Myers has specialized in the American Eskimo for the last 30 years, of which 25 have been spent living and field collecting among the Bering Sea Eskimo.
This experience has provided substantial knowledge of the prehistoric cultures, its peoples and the material culture. Although a frequent visitor to the mainland areas, most of his time has been spent living in the village of Savoonga, St. Lawrence Island. St. Lawrence Island is the area where the earliest cultural periods with an artistic tradition originates, and he has often stayed 3 months, the duration of the digging season.

Tribal Collective

Tribal Collective is maintained by Angel Bottaro and Joel Gauvin (with a little help from our Chihuahua , Sid Vicious). We are a couple who are lucky enough to share a common passion for Tribal Arts. We work from our home office in Melbourne ( Brunswick ), where most of our collection is available for viewing by appointment.
We specialise in the art and artifacts of the Australian Aborigines and of the various cultures of the Pacific region, but our inventory always includes interesting objects from further afield.
We are constantly hunting for new and exciting treasures to add to our inventory.

Baron Tribal

We travel the globe collecting tribal and ethnographic arts, with deep respect for the indigenous peoples of the world. We can learn much from their cultures, and more from their wisdom and vast knowledge of the natural world. All of our pieces are authentic, and most have been collected in the field by us.

Timor Treasures

Julie Emery has been collecting in the field for 20 years and trades exclusively in art and craft from Timor and surrounding islands. She brings to you a wealth of knowledge in West and East Timorese handicraft with a special emphasis on AUTHENTIC TRIBAL art. Her online shop and her eBay identity timorgirl have been raising awareness of the under rated craft that is still being produced in Timor today as well as some of the genuinely older pieces that are still coming out of the mountains. MASKS, STATUES, CURIOS, TEXTILES/IKAT, FOSSIL CORAL, FOSSILS, SCRIMSHAW BONE & BUFFALO HORN, CEREMONIAL ANIMAL SKULLS, BASKETS, POTTERY, BETEL NUT ACCESSORIES, KAPOK PRODUCTS, SANDALWOOD OILS & INCENSE, GAMES, MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, CATAPULTS, MORTAR & PESTLE.
My motto after all these years is "Thread carefully and watch what you leave behind."

African Masks

I specialized in masks and started to learn about the spiritual meaning of them.
These spirits guide people through the varies stages of live and supervise transitions in it.
A dancer in a costume with his mask on is no longer a human being but transformes into a being of a higher order and becomes that spirit.

As so many collectors I could not stop but now I am running out of wall space.
I restrict myself to a few tribes(dogon and luba).
I had a great time collecting and hope you like them too.
